Intended learning outcomes:
On successful completion of the module a student will be able to:
- Recognise the key theories and contemporary issues in practice illustrating the link between forced migration and development
- Discern the difference in perspectives on forced migration development challenges addressing the North/South dichotomy
- Identify the key types of forcefully-induced migration such as refugees, internally displaced people and the kinds of responses given to this phenomena on a local/global perspective
- Demonstrate critical knowledge on the politics and role played by key social actors like the State, UN agencies, NGOs, civil society and others play in triggering flows of forced migrants
- Provide coherent reasoning as to how important for forced migration are issues of identity politics and difference, such as gender, race, class, religion and other factors of difference.
- Show evident knowledge on the link between forced migration and factors of political, sociological and environmental nature
