By the end of this module, students should be able to:
- Explain the importance of taking gender into consideration when studying and attempting to make sense of social inequalities in different contexts.
- Consider the importance of contextualising and historicising when attempting to make sense of social inequalities in a given context.
- Trace the historical, economic and/or socio-political conditions enabling the persistence of particular practices of gender-based oppression in specific contexts.
- Challenge the turn towards static understandings of culture, tradition or religion to make sense of gender-based oppression.
- Explain key feminist theories for making sense of the link between gender and social inequality and for analysing gender inequality.
- Describe key trends, historical and contemporary, within feminist politics on a global scale.
