Module Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, students should be able to:

  1. Explain the importance of taking gender into consideration when studying and attempting to make sense of social inequalities in different contexts.
  2. Consider the importance of contextualising and historicising when attempting to make sense of social inequalities in a given context.
  3. Trace the historical, economic and/or socio-political conditions enabling the persistence of particular practices of gender-based oppression in specific contexts.
  4. Challenge the turn towards static understandings of culture, tradition or religion to make sense of gender-based oppression.
  5. Explain key feminist theories for making sense of the link between gender and social inequality and for analysing gender inequality.
  6. Describe key trends, historical and contemporary, within feminist politics on a global scale.
