Objectives and learning outcomes of the module

This module aims to achieve two key objectives: Firstly, it seeks to integrate Oriental and African studies with mainstream theoretical themes including state-building, social movements, political systems, revolution, democratization, autocracy, and rule of law. Secondly, it focuses on examining various concepts of political authority, contentious politics, and political economy. Upon completing this module, students will be able to evaluate and test a wide range of concepts and theories from both inside and outside these regions, and effectively present ideas and explore key concepts in both written and oral forms.
