Course description:

The course will provide staff with a clear understanding of key concepts in AI and generative AI, including how these technologies are being used in higher education and the implications for teaching, learning, assessment and future student success. It will raise awareness of the importance of AI literacy in students’ academic development and support staff in helping students to use AI tools critically, ethically and responsibly.

The course will also explore issues such as academic integrity, data protection, bias, accountability, transparency and the environmental impact of AI use. Staff will be introduced to the SOAS AI usage menu and consider how it can be applied to assessment design, student guidance and feedback practices. By the end of the course, staff should feel more confident in applying SOAS AI policies within their own teaching contexts and in supporting students to make informed decisions about appropriate AI use.
